Software of Seagulls – Sunrise Industry

Sunrise Industry-cover

Our first release for 2015 comes from Software of Seagulls, the electronic alter ego of Brisbane musician/composer Chris Perren.

Sunrise Industry is the result of four years of gathering, slicing, and assembling found sound, audio ephemera and recorded improvisations from a host of Brisbane musicians. The result is a unique brand of electronic music which owes as much to math rock and neo-classicism as it does to mid-2000’s folktronic artists such as The Books, Manitoba and Four Tet.

The sophistication of the compositions befit Perren’s high level of formal composition training, without losing the childlike fascination and joyful curiosity of sonic exploration.

Listen to Sunrise Industry via the player below, or download it from the Feral bandcamp store here.

Virtual Mixtape #1 – Jonathan Boulet

WhoTheHell2

We have teamed up with the awesome peeps from whothehell.net to bring you Virtual Mixtape, a new feature series where we ask musicians to create a mixtape based on a genre, artist or theme which they are passionate about but not necessarily associated with.

The series also features illustration from Melbourne-based artist Lucy Roleff who not only created the wonderful series artwork pictured above but is also providing an illustration of all the musicians involved (see the Jono Boulet illustration below).

The first instalment comes from Jonathan Boulet who takes us on a journey through sludge rock, hardcore, post punk and all things heavy.

Check out the mixtape over on whothehell.net here and stay tuned for the next instalment.
