Catnip are a Melbourne-based three piece band that blend ambient slide guitar (Richmond Brain), sparse rhythms (Greg Ryan) and relaxed, sultry vocals (Narida Trask) to create songs that are poetic, atmospheric, dreamy and emotive.
In early 2002 the band independently released the single Lullaby which quickly became a favourite on community radio and caught the ear of Chris Thompson (JJJ/ABC) who went onto record their debut EP Pink & Blue & Green. The music on the EP utilised live sampling and real time signal modification by one-timne member Danny Jumpertz, as well as vintage analogue synthesisers to produce and ambient/dub influenced sound.
The results were likened to Mazzy Star and Beth Orton, whom the band cited as influences on their music.
