Preview: Software of Seagulls

As 2014 draws to a close what better time to share a sneak preview of what’s in store for 2015.

Our first release for next year comes from Software of Seagulls, the electronic alter ego of Brisbane composer Chris Perren (Mr. Maps/Nonsemble).

Sunrise Industry, the lead single from the debut album of the same name is a sunny 3-minute collage of drums, guitars and clarinet, with raw textures and occasionally jilted rhythms offset by bright, optimistic sonorities reminiscent of artists such as Caribou, Tycho, and Cornelius.

The single is accompanied by a kaleidoscopic video in which lawnmowers, golf, and office equipment conquer all in a mid-century consumer happiness nightmare. Watch the video above and/or listen to the single via the player below.

Stay tuned for full album details ahead of its release in February.

It’s that time of year again and we are thrilled to present the fourth instalment in our annual Strain of Origin compilation series.

What started as an inter-label collaboration with Brisbane pals Lofly back in 2010 has now evolved into a showcase of some of our favourite and most exciting artists currently active in the Australian underground music scene.

This years compilation features exclusive contributions from Lower Spectrum, Electric Sea Spider, Super Magic Hats, Naps, Pimmon, 0point1, Setec, Tim Fitz, PMM, Power Moves, Shisd, Spartak, Pale Earth and Aheadphonehome.
As with the artists themselves, the compilation crosses a diverse range of styles making for a compelling and forward-thinking listen from start to finish.

As always Strain of Origin IV is provided free of charge for your listening pleasure. Consider this our gift to you for all the love and support throughout the year.
